Siipi Blog Improvements
Thursday, 29 March 2007 20:01:38 EET

I added some new features and bug fixes to the Siipi Blog Template:

■ Added display of last modified date of last reply of Hot Topics (=Blogs which have the latest replies)
■ Added display of number of Blogs in each Area in the Area List (this is kinda cool, it uses the NotesViewEntry.DescendantCount property)
■ Removed 1 line gap before the Area List (it was a <br>)
■ Added Paragraph break after the Referers List to avoid automatic line feed in the first displayed Blog
■ Changed the "ND8 POWERED" logo to point to www.lotus.com/nd8 (=Notes & Domino 8), instead of to Domino 8, as this Blog is indeed additionally powered also by Notes, since you can use Notes RichText formattings in the Blog entries (and also maintain and see more details about the Blog using the Notes Client than just with a Web Browser)
■ Added Body title to the Blog Editing Form
■ Removed 1 line gap before the Blog title when reading a single Blog on the Web (stupid Notes bug: you need to add one space which is marked as PassThru before the field)

That was wierd, I'm sure I changed the code, but it was back to the old. Maybe I forgot to update it into the template, well it was just a 3 characters change: "main" -> "rep".

The rude and patronizing attitude do not give a very good picture of this company... And silence is just that.

In my opinion it's a misunderstanding that we are rude and patrionizing. Yes, we don't always react immediately, since we are not doing things in a industrial flowing band scheme, but rather in a individual highest-quality scheme. We have also big challenges to employ more people, since our quality standards are so high that we have not found anyone suitable to work for us.

Sorry for that, I entered the date wrong in the BIOS. I wanted to enter 05/27/2007, but somehow managed to enter 07/25/2007. Now it's fixed.

Now your "Comment" feature do not work. My question is AFTER your answer. Are you really professional in these things???

Actually the chronological order of the comments is correct. It's just a time paradox when the server is moved to future and you enter a comment, and then moved back to the current time.

Quite a server you have, if you have time-machine installed...

Umm... I do not think you can call THIS feature as "improving"; you have turn the calendar ahead for 2 months in Siipi world which would mean I´ve allready had my summer vacation. No way...

Oh c'mon Lotus Notes and Domino has been always 10 or more years in the future, and you got used to that too!

"Oh c'mon Lotus Notes and Domino has been always 10 or more years in the future, and you got used to that too!" -> You need some kind of professional help and quickly, you start to be seriousily delirious...

Well, then tell me any other system where I do can all the stuff I can do with Lotus/Domino. Or even a small part of them. For example, I want a system which has the following:
1) Object oriented BASIC language style programming environment to program web and database applications
2) Web Server
3) Database server
4) Readers and Authors fields in database records
5) Groups to control access
6) Offline/Online access of the same database
7) Windows, Linux, Mac, AIX platform support

"For example, I want a system which has the following:"

Ok...

"1) Object oriented BASIC language style programming environment to program web and database applications" -> Why? There is lot of other language styles available also...

"2) Web Server" -> All in market. Oracle, Sharepoint...

"3) Database server" -> All in market. Oracle, Sharepoint...

"4) Readers and Authors fields in database records" -> Why? There is other ways to do the same thing also.

"5) Groups to control access" -> Why? There is other ways to do the same thing also.

"6) Offline/Online access of the same database" -> Oracle, Sharepoint...

"7) Windows, Linux, Mac, AIX platform support" -> Oracle. But why?

And then maybe the most important thing... PERSONALLY I try to choose the best equipments for one purpose. I mean I do not use my yacht for cottage trips, not my moose rifle for shooting competitions, not my salmon fishing equipments for fishing the baltic herring etc. Of course in the market there are some compromicing products "fit for anything" purposes but not very good (particulary NOT best) for anything. Domino might be good "multipurpose" tool, but it is DEFINATELY not BEST for any single area, there is better email, better database systems, better etc. in market. These kind of "multipurpose, but not best in any area" tools might suits for you but I am more demanding, I want the best available in any area even if I have to have more than one "equipment" then.
