Majami
Tuesday, 12 June 2007 21:44:09 EET

Project Majami is going forward again, as I got an opportunity to meet the singer of the band soon. I've started to create some sound samples for ModTracker, so we can record the vocals while he can sync his singing speed to the final song.

After the singing is recorded, it's just up to me to play the final instrument tracks and finish the song. I think this will be the main guitar, as it has some unique distortion and sound: Main Comp Guitar (this is just a quick test, so it contains life errors in rhytm and note accuracy).

Now THIS is wierd: I just bought the newest CD from Obituary, called Frozen in Time, and the first song is very similar to our planned main comp guitar (same notes, but slightly different playstyle - well, the typical Obituary notestep style of course). I swear I never heard of their song before today, and the original riff for Majami was done over a year ago. Somekind of telepathy? Then again, this pattern has been probably played by hundreds of bands before, as it's very simple yet metal genre specific one. But still a wierd coincidence that it happened almost at the same time (around 10 minutes before) when I played it, before I opened the CD case and listened to theirs...

EDIT: Now I listened again to the original Majami working draft, and it was not exactly what I just played. It was similar, however inversed down, and shifted 4 notes up. Ok, it could be explained that I have tested some new sound patterns since then, and probably just assumed that I originally played it using the improved sound pattern.

Nah, it's neither to die or to live for metal, it's all about being UNDEAD for metal!

Hi. What is the situation with this project? Did you ever meet the singer or what? Looking forward to hear some news...

Too much coke or some similar rock´n´roll disease or why no info updated of this project? Just a smoke without flames?

The project is going forward. Just few months ago I recorded the singer's voice. Next I just have to play the song with real instruments, as for the recording I just used a PC based tracker.

Musical inspiration is not thing you can schedule. It just happens when it's meant to happen. However, I had an inspiration today, not about the first Majami song though, but about a fun Rock'n'Roll song. Ok, but I need clear the carpet first and combine the parts of the Majami first song. Too many simultaneous open projects are not good either, not even in the music scene.

3 news at this moment:
1) We get another singer (female)
2) I played around with the intro and general arrangement of the song, but it's not recorded yet
3) I will relese a demo part of the song first, since the full song takes quite a while to finish and polish

I suppose you´re aware you cannot use the old lyrics with another singer? So you have to _completely_ re-write the words of the song...

No, the other singer (my sister), will do other music, a bit like opera metal. It's also not running under the Majami label, but I need to find another name for that project.

Mike Oldfield had also many singers, and they were not permanently working for his band/projects.

"It's also not running under the Majami label, but I need to find another name for that project." -> So why did you put that original comment under "Majami" when I ask news of Majami? You can do other blogging for other project AND I did ask news around Majami. Enough Majami:s for you to understand?

Ok, while the other singer is not directly related to this song, I thought I'd mention it just aside. Like a guest star.

Unfortunately I don't have any directly Majami related music news at the moment.

There was some internal discussion a few days ago about songs which touch the heart, and about the general goals where Siipi Music is heading. Just most exciting, dramatic, touching and feeling music, not mainstream pop and jams.

This will of course also affect Majami's musical style to some extend, but it has to be agreed and discussed with you before.

Next demo is under work. I figured out how to make the sing voice sound good, a'la Black Sabbath old style, and practiced to play life with a Kannel sounding 12-string guitar. Got bits and pieces together, but more work is needed to combine them all for the next demo.
But anyway, the idea:

Singing comes maybe tomorrow, today I learned how to use VST inserts for the singing voice.
Just added intro lead guitar, and fixed some timings of the kannel:

Sounds good! A bit out of the rythm every now and then but I suppose it will be corrected at some point?

Mika

I corrected one out-of-rhytm issue from version 3 to 4, but first I corrected it too much and it sounded boring. So I took it bit back and left some freedom of rhytm.
